Total Physical Response


·         The goal of TPR is to make students enjoy their experience in learning to communicate in a foreign language. TPR  was developed in order to reduce the stress people feel when studying foreign languages and there by encourage students to persist in their study beyond a beginning level of prophecy.
·         The teacher is the director of all student behavior. The students are imitator.
·         The first phase of a lesson is one of modeling. The second phase, the students demonstrate that they can understand the commands by performing them alone. The third phase, the student learn to read and write them.
·         The teacher interacts with the whole group of students and with individual students. Students perform the actions together.
·         The students will speak when they are ready.
·         Vocabulary and grammatical structures are emphasized over other language areas.
·         TPR is usually introduced in the students’ native language. Meaning is made clear through body movement.
·         Teacher will know immediately whether or not students understand by observing the students’ actions.
Teacher should be tolerant o them and only correct the major errors.
