The Summary Of The Direct Method

The goal of this method is to make student succesfull to commubnicate in the target language.

This method has one basic rule: No Translation is allowed.

The principles of the Direct Method:

• reading aloud -this is to imprive pronunciation
• using pictures or realia -this is to help student understand the meaning of a word or something
• the native language should not be used in the classroom
• the teacher should demonstrate,not explain or translate.
• student should learn to think in the target language -teacher asks the students in the target language, then the students must answer it in a full sentence in the target language
• dictation -the teacher reads the passage 3 times, the 1st time the teacher reads it in a normal speed, while the students just listen. the 2nd time the teacher reads it phrase by phrase, pausing long enough to allow students to write down that they have heard. the last time the teacher reads again at normal speed, the students check their works
• grammar is taught inductively
